Abstract

The following article is based on the experiences during the development of an extension project promoted by the National University of Villa María (UNVM), which addresses socio-economic, socio-environmental and integral health issues from a gender perspective and an interdisciplinary viewpoint.

With the aim of promoting the articulation and linkage between the university and the social environment, the project contributes to the promotion of local development and improves the quality of life of the community. This linkage with the context thus facilitates the fulfillment of the social commitment of universities in the instance of university extension.

In Argentina there is a proliferation of landfills, which in some cases present heterogeneity in their operations, coupled with precarious working conditions of the people who work there. In the particular case of the city of Villa María, Córdoba, a work cooperative, linked to waste differentiation, emerges, mostly composed of women from the working classes. The work carried out by these women is central to environmental care, and their tasks and contributions in the production and knowledge generation chains are only recently becoming visible, in addition to the fact that some labor and health activities are still under development.
