This communication aims to share the experience of the Curricular Unit of Territorial Learning in the Integral Space of Training (EFI UCAT in Spanish) of the first year of the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de la República, in terms of teaching strategies within the framework of Latin American university extension. A brief historical overview of the experience is carried out, to later introduce the reader to the development of the EFI UCAT. The two moments of the teaching process are highlighted, emphasizing the singularities that constitute it as a unique experience of curricularization of university extension and, even more so, within the framework of a Medical School. The EFI UCAT represents innovative teaching instances, committed to the proactive and active development of students, as well as the communities they participate with.
