Itinerant Legal Services for Underprivileged Communities: The Quest for Access to Justice

Keywords: access to justice, underprivileged population, legal service, extension activity

Abstract

This article will address an extension project of notorious relevance, which is marked by the itinerary of promoting access to justice for those who need it most and who, on several occasions, are unaware of their rights. Nowadays, there are gaps that this project aims to fill, providing quality legal assistance, itinerant for residents of Princesa Isabel and Progresso neighborhoods, in the city of Frutal/MG. In this way, this project has as its main objective to provide legal assistance to the most vulnerable, since they do not have sufficient means to solve their conflicts. In this way, the work will be based fundamentally on providing assistance to the population, which will imply expanding access to justice in the communities and will provide their population with information they do not have available for the realization of their rights and resolution of their problems, always in order to promote citizenship, dignity, well-being and freedom of the population living in the communities reached by this initiative. In this way, the project is justified, above all, by the belief that the Law and access to justice by most citizens is a very effective instrument in modifying social reality and promoting the well-being of individuals, since they make it possible to eliminate the anguish derived from the feeling of injustice and helplessness. In this understanding, it is intended to expand, among others, the integrated development of teaching-research-extension, so that the student can experience a teaching-learning process linked to social processes.
